WW 2: Royal Navy Fleet Air Arm FLT LT's Mess Dress Gold Wire KINGS CROWN Wings. Condition is "Used".
This uniform was in a large Private display from the home of an avid uniform collector Ann Arbor, Michigan, over a 55-year period.
The Prior Owner downsized when retired & moved out of state: keeping about 5% of collection & nearly 100% of acquired medals & ribbons (from Axis & Allied powers).
This collection started in the early 1950's. Many uniforms were gifted to him via schoolmates, friends & business associates from across Europe, Asia, USA & Canada.
Found in this uniforms pockets: Two hand written 6x4 cards with this R.N. Flight Officers service & citations: (these medals were kept by the original owner and moved with him to Arizona), and a Christmas Tag stating that this uniform was a gift to prior owner by friends.
Custom Made & Tailored by Caslaw Hayter & Tate LTD, of High Street in Sunderland, England. This mess dress jacket, vest & pants all original & matching. All buttons and clasps on this uniform are original and remain firmly attached from bespoke original.

The Mess Jacket w/Bullion Wire
KINGS CROWN
Pilots Wings and R.N. Kings Brass Buttons, the Vest & Trousers are matching and correct.
JACKET:
The exterior & lining of the mess jacket is brilliant. Slight thread displacement on shoulders where epaulets met outer shoulder. Metal epaulet attachment points on inner shoulder both pristine.
VEST:
Pristine Condition in All.
TROUSERS:
Button fly, suspender & waste buttons firm, the right inner pocket has been removed- not visible at all from the exterior and could be replaced by a tailor with similar material. Only wear shown is on
Very Bottom
of both legs-repeat:
the very bottom.
Slight moth damage on One Spot Only, about 2 millimeters at very bottom of leg. The bottom of legs demonstrate some stiffness and very slight moth damage - that a professional cleaning/preservation would absolutely eradicate: When done these will show as Pristine.
(NOTE: There are no other moth issues on this uniform- anywhere)
Upon extensive on-line search (I encourage you to do the same)- particularly in the U.K. historical uniforms for sale/auction I have been unable to find

mess dress uniforms. In the U.K. the available WW-2 Royal Navy Mess-Dress #2 Uniforms are sold in a Three Set: Dinner Jacket, Vest & Trousers.  Original Suspenders, black tie & shirt were not included in in 8 of 9 WW2 Mess dress uniforms located for sale.
The dress shirt, dinner tie & suspenders Are Not WW2 Era (appear to be 1970’s/80’s made), and were added by prior owner for display on tailor’s manikin for his collection (manikin is not included with purchase).
Historical research of Caslaw Hayter & Tate LTD, High Street, Sunderland, England is rich. Caslaw Hayter & Tate LTD remained in business for over 100 years, a specialty was custom tailoring School Uniforms. During World War II they hand tailored and made military uniforms.
Uniform Condition- Overall is Excellent- with minor (and without visual effect) preservation & hemming at the foot of each uniform leg.
Needs a dry cleaning- does not smell.
Needs slight preservation-cleaning on the last inch of each pant leg- ample length available for hemming up with the material existing.
