    Description

    Description:
The item up for bids is a fabulous 1916 sterling silver yachting trophy from the Corinthian Yacht Club in Marblehead, Massachusetts. It has a handled basket form with a gorgeous hammered surface texture. At the center is a Corinthian Yacht Club medallion complete with Pegasus (the flying horse of Corinth), rope border, seahorses, and the club motto 'Et Certare Pares et Respondere Parati' (prepared both to contend together as equals and to respond to any challenge). It is engraved at the top rim 'Corinthian Yacht Club, Midsummer Series, 1916', and at the bottom rim 'Y.R.U. of M., Class I, 18 Foot Knockabouts, Won By . . .' (there is no winner's name). On the handle it reads 'Offered by Albert W. Finlay' who was a yacht racing captain of some renown back in the early days of the Twentieth Century. The trophy was made by the Barbour Silver Company of Hartford, Connecticut, and it is signed on the bottom with the Barbour 'BCS' touchmark, 521, and Sterling. It's a great piece of New England sailing history, have some fun and bid!
